MERIDAN SPORT
Home of Marty and the mighty Marlins  -“Fear the Fish"

Meridan State College is committed to a holistic-approach to student development across academic, sporting and cultural fields. The Marlins' Sport Performance Program is designed to provide athletes with the opportunity to develop their sporting talents through focused high-quality training, and allow them to compete in extra-curricular competitions at Regional, State and National levels. The Program is centred on long-term athlete development for the enhanced participation, success, excellence and interaction of participants of all ages across the Secondary College.

All Meridan Sporting Programs are underpinned by the “Developing the Athlete Within" framework for student-athlete development. This is a holistic approach to simultaneously develop the person that surrounds the athlete, whilst providing the skills to enhance cross-disciplinary athletic performance.

Our athletes are guided by the Marlin Creed, which outlines three core tenants that extend beyond the sporting field and should be displayed in all areas of school life.

1.      CONDUCT YOURSELF WITH HONOUR

The result is never as important as how you conduct yourself as a player and a person

2.      PLAY TO WIN

Play to win; understand you cannot win all the time; learn from your defeats

3.      NEVER GIVE UP

Try your best always and in all ways

Students must show ongoing commitment to the Marlin Creed in their daily actions if they are to retain their place in our sporting programs.

Lead by our mascot, Marty the Marlin – Meridan students have many opportunities to be involved in College Sport.

MERIDAN SPORTS ACADEMY

MARLINS SPORT PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

The Marlins Sport Performance Program focuses on the five pillar sports of Basketball, Netball, Oztag, Rugby League and Volleyball. Athlete development is supported through mentoring, training and education from nationally accredited and industry experienced coaches and volunteers. Competitions and training generally occur outside of school curriculum time, and therefore high levels of commitment are required from participants if they are to maintain their positions within squads and demonstrate the level of self-development and excellence required from Marlin student-athletes.
