With a strong emphasis on “Community" at Meridan, our Community carnivals are hotly contested, fun and always full of College spirit. Bradman, Freeman, O'Neill and Rafter each year vie for honours in our swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals.  Our Community carnivals also serve as trials for 10 Years through to Open age groups in swimming, cross country and athletics.  It is from performance in these carnivals that our Meridan representative athletes are selected to attend the next level of competition.

Prep – Year 3 Carnivals

Our Preps to Year 3 Athletics Carnival is held at the end of Term 2 each year.  Students race, as well as part-take in a number of modified athletics activities and novelty events throughout the day. Students in this age group also engage in a fun run to complement the cross country that the rest of the College participates in at the end of Term 1.

Athletics Day: Week 10 Term 2

Year 4 – Year 6 Carnivals

Year 4 to 6 students travel to the Caloundra Aquatic Centre each year for the annual Swimming Carnival.  Students nominate in class prior to the day for events of different distances and ability level.  Primary students nominate to compete in the College Cross Country with students running either 2 or 3 Km depending on their age.  The 4-6 Athletics Carnival is held across two days at the end of Term 2.  Students trial and train during class in Term 2, with the athletics days consisting of events for both participation and serious competitors.

Students that finish 1 or 2 in a competitive swimming or track and field event will be invited to join the Meridan Primary Team to compete at the Coastal District Sporting Carnivals. Students finishing top 6 for their age in the cross country will also qualify for our College Cross Country Team. Selected students will be informed following the Meridan Carnivals and enquiries can be directed to the Meridan Team managers.

Year 7 – Year 12 Carnivals

Year 7 to 12 students travel to the Caloundra Aquatic Centre each year for the annual Swimming Carnival.  Students nominate for swimming events on the day in their Communities with heats run for serious competitors and Community participation points. There are also novelty events and times for free swims on the day. The College Cross Country is a nomination only event for competitive runners. Students must nominate prior to the event via the online form in order to participate. The 7-12 Athletics Carnival is held at the end of Term 2 across 1½ days. The half day is via online nomination only, with students coming out class to compete in their selected events. The full day involves all students, where no nominations are required and any student can compete in any event. Age champions are awarded, as is Champion Community for both Junior and Senior Secondary – so fun and participation are paramount.

Students that finish 1 or 2 in a competitive swimming or track and field event will be invited to join the Meridan Secondary Team to compete at the Coastal District Sporting Carnivals. Students finishing top 5 for their age in the cross country will also qualify for our College Cross Country Team. Selected students will be informed following the Meridan Carnivals and enquiries can be directed to the Meridan Team managers.
