At Meridan, we consider the prep year to be an integral part of our College.
Meridan State College’s Prep areas are designed as welcoming spaces that build a sense of well-being and belonging for our Prep children.

Why choose our school?
At Meridan, our Prep students are at the heart of everything we do.
At our school, we are proud to offer a safe and supportive learning environment where children can explore, discover, question and problem solve. Our Prep program is carefully designed to give students a flying start, with a strong focus on the explicit teaching of phonics, reading, writing and numeracy. Alongside this, students engage in rich, inquiry-based learning that empowers them to become curious, knowledgeable, and creative thinkers. Our engaging units of inquiry are shaped by student interests and connect across learning areas including Science, HASS, design and the Arts.
They also celebrate our natural environment. Our outdoor spaces are truly special – from our living, wired rainforest, where children can quietly observe wildlife, to interactive gardens, yarning circles, and even our own beehives, where students can learn about sustainability and the natural world. These unique experiences help students connect with nature, practise mindfulness, and build respect for the environment around them.
The Arts at Meridan
Our very popular Art Hub sparks creativity and imagination, encouraging even our youngest learners to express themselves through a wide range of artistic experiences. From art classes and dance to music, choir and drumming, our arts program helps children explore their talents and grow in confidence.
Sport at Meridan
We believe sport is a vital part of every student's educational journey. Prep students enjoy our swimming program and can sign up to learn and play basketball, rugby, Oztag, and more. Our Prep students love competing, and our Athletics, Swimming, and Cross Country Carnivals are perfect for those who enjoy a little challenge and have lots of energy!
Our Marlins Sport Performance Program provides high-quality training for student-athletes from the early years, with opportunities to compete and represent our school at Regional, State, and National levels from year 4 onwards. Led by our proud mascot, Marty the Marlin, and supported by our Marlin Code of Conduct, sport at Meridan strengthens respect, pride, and unity across our College.
Belonging and Community
At Meridan, we celebrate our Marlin Culture, which is built on the values of Courage, Compassion, Collaboration, and Courtesy. Our Prep students are our Mini Marlins.
Our Mini Marlins work closely with their secondary buddy classes to build friendships, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging. These connections help foster kindness, support, and leadership across our whole school community.
