The Meridan STEM Academy is designed to foster students' ability to think
critically and creatively to solve real world problems.
Students develop
their knowledge and skills in each of the disciplines of STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Maths) with each project as they progress from
research and ideation through to building and implementing their solutions.
STEM Academy Core Values are:
Curiosity | Creativity | Courage | Collaboration |
We are forever curious about how things work and why, and the impact technologies have on the world. | We take inspiration from existing ideas then think outside the box to approach problems from different perspectives. | We have the courage to extend ourselves beyond what we are comfortable with to learn from mistakes and grow. | We can achieve more when we learn together and help each other.
|
In the STEM Academy, students will develop their ability to:
DISCOVER
Students decompose real-world issues to identify the causes and effects, key stakeholders, constraints, and opportunities that will influence their solution.
DESIGN
Students design solutions that meet the needs of their stakeholders and follow design principles. They create and refine designs digitally before 3D printing or constructing these with materials.
CODE
Students create sophisticated programs to control digital systems and electronics that allow their solutions to be automated, interact with a user and/or the environment.
CREATE
Students construct functioning prototypes of their solutions to bring their ideas to life and test them in the real world.
