Meridan State College P & C Association is looking for 2 enthusiasticcustomer service focussed people, with kitchen and coffee making experience, to join the team at our Rainforest Cafe (onsite College Tuckshop & Coffee Shop).

The role is paid according to the P & C Award.  This is a permanent part-time position of 10+ (negotiable) hours per week, during term time, working 2 – 3 shifts per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND HOW TO APPLY

Role Duties

  • Welcoming customers and staff with a friendly smile and attitude, sharing product knowledge and accepting orders.
  • Take customer orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preference of coffee/dairy/sugar requests).
  • Understands the brewing, making and presentation of a variety of beverages including espresso-based coffees, teas and blended drinks.
  • Preparation, plating and serving foods, such as sandwiches, salads and baked goods.
  • Responsible for adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls throughout the Cafe and Tuckshop.
  • Assist the Tuckshop Manager as directed in accordance with the policies and standards as determined by the P&C Association from time to time.
  • Actively promote the objectives and goals of the P&C Association.
  • Check deliveries for quantities and quality, having over the delivery dockets and credit notes to the Tuckshop Convenor or Operations Manager.
  • To achieve and maintain the Tuckshop in an orderly and safe condition at all times and take whatever action is necessary to ensure the hygiene, health and safety at all times.
  • Ensure that correct food hygiene practices are observed to prevent spoilage and contamination.
  • To be aware of community needs and changes as they occur and how these can or do influence the Tuckshop and to report these matters to the Tuckshop Manager.
  • Build good relationships with voluntary workers and encourage a team spirit.
  • Co-operate with the school when changes in the program affect the Tuckshop routine.
  • Seek the opinions of students and the school community regarding their food preferences.
  • Accept training opportunities in the areas of nutrition, hygiene, working with voluntary workers and general Tuckshop issues.
  • Assist the Tuckshop Convenor to conduct a full stock-take of the Tuckshop stock at the end of each month or as otherwise requested by the Tuckshop Convenor.

Other Responsibilities/Duties

  • Experience with food and beverage preparation and customer service required
  • Barista experience preferable
  • Willingness to continue to learn about food and beverage preparation
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills, customer focus and service, people skills, action orientated and organized
  • Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods
  • Blue card required
  • Any other duties as requested
  • Processing payments of goods
  • Be aware of changes to the Tuckshop environment including but not limited to Department of Education policy, school Behaviour Management policy, personal behaviour, interaction with others in the school community and the Principal's requirements for the operation of P&C business
  • Treat all customers, colleagues, community members and other stakeholders with respect and dignity at all times
  • Follow all reasonable and lawful directions of your managers/supervisors and the P&C Executive
  • Uphold a high ethical and professional standard and represent the P&C Association positively at all times, following the P&C Voluntary & Staff Code of Conduct
  • Follow the directions of the appointed Emergency officers (e.g. Fire Wardens) and/or Principal and his/her appointed representatives in the event of an Emergency or an Emergency Drill​

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evaluation of the menu, food supplies and equipment alongside the Tuckshop Convenor & team
  • Flexible attitude to responsibilities
  • Tolerance and understanding of cultural diversity
  • Current Working with Children Blue Card.

Tuckshop Convenor (Part time)

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated cook & barista to join our team as a permanent Tuckshop Convenor, (25 hours per week), with Meridan State College P & C Association. Hours are generally school term time only, with some holiday hours required. The Rainforest Cafe is a busy tuckshop and coffee shop servicing the Meridan State College community.  Situated at the heart of a large P-12 college, the Rainforest Cafe provides hot food, drinks, snacks, coffees and breakfast on a daily basis to staff and students.  The Cafe also provides a catering service for conferences, professional development and other events held at the College.  The Cafe is fast paced and busy, requiring someone with great customer service skills, a passion for food and a proven history of barista and cooking skills, plus ordering and managing stock.  Applicants must be enthusiastic team leaders, unafraid of getting their hands dirty and working in and amongst the team.

Wages & conditions will be subject to Award conditions and experience.

The Spring Culture Festival 2023
Thank you to our awesome and talented students and Meridan Staff who helped make our Festival a great success. A special shout-out to our army of volunteers who did an amazing job! The Spring Culture Festival is a much-anticipated celebration that unites students, parents, and caregivers from Meridan State College and our vibrant community. With an expected attendance of over 1500 people this year, it presents a fantastic opportunity to engage in a variety of fun activities, performances, exhibitions, stalls and food that cater to different age groups and interests.

The Meridan State College P&C, in collaboration with our College and the Creative Collective, proudly presents The Spring Culture Festival on Friday, 20 October 2023, commencing at 3:30 pm.

The festival promises a multitude of exciting activities tailored to delight and entertain our community including:

Creative Collective entertainment including Live on Stage Performances, Instrumental Showcase, Primary Bucket Bangers, Year 6 - 12 Dance Extravaganza, Arts Showcase, Photography Competition, Drama and Street Performers 

Basketball Showcase including 4 competitive games against Coolum High, Sunshine Coast Grammar, St John's College and Pacific Lutheran College

Preps – Year 6 Stalls including Baked Goods, Homemade Jars of Jams and Chutney, Chocolate Galore Lucky Dip and Guessing Booth, Plants and Pots.

Year 7 – 12 Stalls including Pre-Loved Books, First Nations Arts and Crafts, The Magic of Science Presentation, Family Portraits
