Meridan State College is continually focused on improving
opportunities for parents to engage with the College and to support their
child’s learning. In Term 1, our Primary
campus offer Parent Partnership Meetings in each year level to allow parents to
be informed of the year level curriculum focus areas and critical learning
concepts from the Australian Curriculum.
These sessions also provide information on school and
classroom procedures and special events your child would be involved in during
the year. For those parents who are unable to attend these sessions, the year
level presentations are included here. You can also access a number of helpful
parent fact sheets to assist you in supporting your child’s skill development in
the areas of literacy and numeracy.
The National Curriculum’s commenced implementation in 2011
in Queensland Schools. The benefits of a national curriculum are many with most
teachers agreeing it’s a positive step. All students will be learning the same
subjects containing the same material at the same time in every school in
Australia. The curriculum has been developed using world’s best models and aims
at raising the academic standards of Australian students.
Students transferring from one school to another will be at
the same stage of the curriculum no matter where they have come from in
Australia and no matter when they transfer. National testing will also finally
be a level playing field. English and Maths remain central to the curriculum as
well as science; however there are other KLA’s that are covered in the daily
program.
