Novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

3/04/2020

Latest Updates

At this stage schools in Queensland, including our school, will continue to be open and regular classes will be running, but all schools are taking action to promote healthy hygiene behaviours.

These behaviours include:

Where possible avoid close contact with others. This includes touching, kissing, hugging and shaking hands.

Practice hand hygiene. Wash hands frequently with soap and water, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet.

Practice respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough and/or sneeze. Dispose of tissues immediately and use alcohol - based sanitizer.

If unwell, self-isolate and avoid contact with others (if possible stay more than 1.5 metres from people).

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses.

Access to Curriculum

In the event that students, staff or indeed the whole school needs to self-isolate at any time we are confident we can support continued student learning.

Primary

Education Queensland has provided a suite of online resources for each year level to assist you. Your child will need to access them using their Education Qld Logon and password. Please contact the teachers for these details if required. You can find these resources here:

https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/learning-at-home

Secondary

Meridan State College Secondary Campus is  in a unique position with the online learning platforms we have been using since the start of 2019. We are confident we can maintain continuity of curriculum delivery through our CANVAS Online Learning Platform. This platform allows for student and staff access from any location with internet access, and we have spent the 18 months populating this with our whole school curriculum and resources. The practical application everyone has had with CANVAS will ensure staff and students are comfortable accessing learning through this platform. We have access to email communications and many of our classes are on Class Notebook therefore allowing direct class teacher to class student interactions around learning.

If your child is currently at home due to self-isolation requirements or choices, the curriculum resources are available through the platforms identified above.  Students can communicate directly with teachers via email and seek additional directions and support.  Under the current cuircumstance (whilst the school is open), teachers will support this as much as resources allow, but are not obliged to provide this at an individual level.

In the event of a school-closure, more information regarding maintaining learning with your child, including on-line resources, sessions, schedules and assessment will be sent out to parents and students.

*Due to the current situation, the College will be reviewing class sizes daily and where possible and appropriate some classes may be merged.
