Year 5 and Year 6 Swimming and Surf Skills Program

Year 5 and Year 6 students will participate in a swimming program in Week 6 from Tuesday 12 November to Friday 15 November 2019.

After completing this swimming program, these students will be involved in surfboard/bodyboard riding and surf awareness clinics once a week in Weeks 7,8,9 and 10 of Term 4.

The swimming program will be conducted at the new Little Mountain Aquatic Centre on 211 Parklands Boulevard, across the road from the school. The Surf Skills Program will be held at Kings Beach, with Dicky Beach an alternative location if weather conditions are unfavourable.

The total cost of the program is $92. This includes the cost of the qualified swimming/surf instructors, pool entry and the bus service to and from the beach.  Students will also be provided with a swimming cap that has the school logo on it and this must be worn while swimming at the pool. Children are not to bring any boards to school as these are supplied by the surf company.

Students will be placed in appropriate levels at swimming which include the following:

w    Level 1:      Beginners

w    Level 2:      More confident, e.g. floating on own

w    Level 3:      Basic arm, breathing and kick skills, e.g. Swim 10 metres

w    Level 4:      Can swim a minimum of 25m Freestyle/15m Backstroke

This is a highly valuable program and it is expected that all students will participate in it.
